Introduction: This study contextualizes the critical importance of understanding the relationship between vulnerability to non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) and COVID-19 deaths in the Cuban context, highlighting the need to address this intersection to improve public health strategies.
Objective: To analyze the correlation between general vulnerability to NCDs and COVID-19 deaths at the municipal level in Cuba, identifying significant patterns and relationships.
Methods: The methodology is described in three stages: creation of prevalence rate maps, comprehensive vulnerability assessment through Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE), and correlation with COVID-19 deaths using Poisson regression.
Stage 1: Creation of thematic maps of NCD prevalence rates.
Stage 2: Comprehensive vulnerability assessment using MCE, generating a general vulnerability map.
Stage 3: Correlation of vulnerability with COVID-19 deaths using Poisson regression.
Results: Five thematic maps of partial vulnerability are presented, highlighting NCD prevalence, and the correlation of general vulnerability with COVID-19 deaths (up to December 2022). The importance of this information for decision-making is emphasized.
Conclusions: The results underline the utility of understanding the relationship between vulnerability to NCDs and COVID-19 deaths, emphasizing its relevance in the strategic planning of public health interventions at the national level.
